Her artistic practice encompasses various mediums such as photography, film, paintings, textiles, and sculpture. Through her work, she delves deep into the narratives of the African and Caribbean diaspora, bringing collective stories to life. Adélakun's art is deeply rooted in the concepts of matriarchal rule, as well as pre-colonial African and South Asian history, mythology, and spirituality. By exploring these themes, she seeks to challenge and rebel against the dominance of European influences on Black culture. Her ultimate goal as an artist is to empower individuals from the diaspora by narrating stories from West African and South Asian folklore, history, and mythology. Adélakun's work celebrates the strength and contributions of women from the African diaspora, often incorporating elements of adornment that reflect the creative direction of her work. The values and experiences that inform Adélakun's art are reflected in her films, which tackle themes of social justice, empowerment, identity, ancestry, and belonging. Her work serves as a platform to address important societal issues and shed light on the experiences of marginalized communities, particularly those of African descent. As a writer, director, and producer, Adélakun has dedicated the past five years to creating impactful films that resonate with audiences.
